Round, coarsely toothed leaves form clumps of glossy creen leaves. Flowers are pink to rose with deeply fringed edges. Intolerent of heat, and needs acid, leafy, or peaty soil. Grows well with rhododendrons and azaleas. Plants spread slowly by underground stems. Native to Japan.
