Stunning feathery bamboo at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Gainesville, FL
This was growing in a large pot at the Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson.
A fine wispy grass, fast grower and drought tolerant
I bought this to add a feathery texture to my courtyard garden.
Looks like mini bamboo.
in southern California desert
i had to move them once, to an area where they seemed to be happy. once i did that, they flourished
This plant provides some wonderful effects when sunlight passes through the feathery, wispy leaves.
Each leaf is very long and thin and even a slight breeze will cause a gentle swaying in the plant - very poetic!
UC Berkeley Botanical Garden, May
20+ year old clumps cut back to less than 12" (30cm) nubs a few weeks ago! Smallish mature culms stuck in for contrast.
Observe the contrasting leaves of a new ground shoot vs. finer textured leaves on hard, matured bamboo-like culm.
Close-up of newest growth. Imagine nothing but the dead looking nubs! Thought all was lost!
Surprise! Why I am so addicted! Not an end result but such an overlooked beauty of 3 1/2' (1M) base Bamboo Muhly!
Proof is in the pudding! A garden hoe spanning the breadth of one of two 20+ yr. old clumps surviving drought et al!
