Radermachera Species, China Doll, Emerald Tree, Serpent Tree (Radermachera sinica)

I would love to put my China Doll in the ground, but I rent my home. It seems to do great as a patio tree in Zone 9.

This one is about 10 feet, no... make that 10'1"...

Growing outside - blooms on a 30 ft tree.

The plant is in a nursery, it has outgrown it's 5 gallon pot & grown through the lath covering.

Seedlings. So typical of a bignoniaceae.

My China Doll trees on Christmas day 2004. Very rare snowstorm for south Texas

flowering Radermachera sinica

I was told this is a Ming. 3 years old and 15 feet tall. Now it's blooming. Leaves very glossy and teardrop shape with no lobes or serration.

A China Doll with a heart

12' tall china doll, 15 years old, first blossom, July 2007. This tree is potted and has been "topped-off" many times to keep it a reasonable height.

China Doll - ~30 feet tall, going wild :O)

This "China Doll" is 7 1/2 yrs old and has withstood two major hurricanes, both "Rita" and "Ike". Note the lean to the left thanks to "Ike".

These are the seed pods of the 'China Doll Tree", hence also given the name, "Serpent Tree".

The effects of temperature in the 20s on my China Doll trees. Hope they recover.

The thickest trunk on my China Doll trees.

Shows just how tall our China Doll is!

The stripped seed pods... the birds have eaten all the seeds!
