Close up of blooms of Wild Petunia(Ruellia)

These lovely flowers appear in late summer on incredibly tough, drought-resistant native plants (Missouri). They are difficult to remove in unwanted areas, but wonderful in more casual spots.

This Ruellia has a hairy leaf suface to protect it from drought conditions. It thrives growing on a limestone glade (shallow soil over solid limestone). It grows well in our pasture and takes summer heat quite well.
