Cassia Alata blooms

This is an amazing small tree. For me in zone 9b it dies back to the ground in winter and comes back each summer. Grows to about 10-15\\\'! So far a real no care plant.

As I stated it dies by in winter and does this in the summer!

It\\\'s now about 10 feet tall and 8 feet wide. The largest trunks are maybe 3 inches in diameter. It has lots of yellow flowers on it. A very nice specimen tree and also a great butterfly larval food--if you can keep the ants that are on it from eating all the eggs and cats!

macro of flower. Kerrville, TX (Oct 4, 2003)

Took this photo on the way to work at a house belonging to a lady named Lydia . The blooms open from the bottom up and it is still blooming in October. Although the blooms are huge, they look small in the photo because the foliage is so large. (San Antonio, Tx.)

You need to give this plant plenty of room to grow. I do not know how old Lydia's plant is. Still bloomimg in October.(San Antonio, Tx.)

Blooms just opening at the bottom. (San Antonio, Tx.)

Seed pods ... (San Antonio, Tx.)

Winged seed pod, showing seeds. Rio de Janeiro, mid summer.

Part creeping, part erect shrub, this plant sure demands more room than it should. Rio de Janeiro, mid summer.

Looking upwards at a CANDLE BUSH. Grown in a mostly shaded area - it has reached 8-9 feet tall so far. It's more tree-like in this environment.

Cassia Alata - this is ONE BUSH - started from a single seed about 3 years ago - now easily 10' high and 15'-20' across

Cassia Alata - Blooms late summer to frost in Central Florida; Mostly hardy here although sometimes not. Blooms 1st year from seed.
