Close-up of ironweed flower heads.

Butterflies love this plant.

The Ironweed flower heads actually consist of a cluster of small purple trumpet flowers.

Growing in a wet area next to my Pergola. Almost 6 feet tall.

This big, bold, vigorous, sturdy & reliable perennial woodland native of the eastern half of the U.S., provides awesome late season color intensity!

A nine-foot-tall bouquet of giant ironweed. The clump is tied to the fence. Popular with bees and small butterflies.

Doesn't attract as many butterflies as other plants in my garden, but they don't ignore it

Several weeks after flowering the seeds fluff open. The seeds are supposed to be attractive to native birds.
