Monarda Species, Wild Bergamot, Wild Bee Balm, Beebalm, Horsemint (Monarda fistulosa)



Fragrant mint with branching, square stems to 5' tall. Leaves are opposite, up to 5" long and 2" wide, sharply toothed, broadest near the base and tapering to long pointed tips. Flowers are in dense, rounded heads at tops of stems with each head surrounded by a whorl of pale, leafy bracts.

Blooms have a nice spicy scent

A patch in the wild, in rich soil.

Found growing in a field south of Saskatoon, SK Canada (zone 3).

Monarda fistulosa (wild bergamot) seeds.

You can see the anthers and stigma at the very end of the top part of each petal.
