This is an off-center close-up of one of the flowers from the tree pictured above. Isn't it Beautiful! I planted it for a 96 year old woman who is nearly blind. She loves this flower. The 'orchid' tree flower has a mild scent that reminds me of lilacs.

A 5m tall tree full of flowers
This 5-year old tree is very hardy, blooms for about one month period in the summer (one bloom lasts for one day only from 7am-2pm), and has beautiful leaves throughout the year.

This beautiful Variegated Orchid Tree (Bauhinia variegata) covered with blooms caused me to screech my car to a stop and take this photo. which doesn't do it justice.
The bloms of the Variegated Orchid Tree (Bauhinia variegata) are quite large and showy. This photo provides a bloom size perspective. Note the color changes in the blooms that have faded with age.
Variegated Orchid Tree (Bauhinia variegata) is often mistaken for Bauhinia purpurea. B. variegata bloom petals overlap; whereas, B. purpurea bloom petals don't overlap.
