Cynara Species, Artichoke, Cardoon, French Artichoke, Globe Artichoke (Cynara scolymus)

my first artichoke!

Plant growing along with some Hydrangeas in Petropolis, north of Rio de Janeiro. Mid spring.

I love these !! It got so much attention in my garden. Everyone wanted to know what it was. I did nothing to it except water it,& let it grow. I will plant more in the spring for eating.

Here's one in Riverside California

I planted this for the first time this year. These grew great for me and didn't become huge at all. I am hoping it will come back next spring as it is still growing now in December. I only planted 1 plant and monitored it closely, pulling off any leaves that didn't look good so maybe thats what kept it in control.I am not sure but I will plant more this year.

Globe Artichoke -- Looks like a Pineapple!

Very Tall Globe Artichoke Plant -- Six Feet Tall!

Biggest Artichoke I've Grown. Bigger than my hand.

Globe Artichoke in bloom.

Always a conversation piece in the garden when the articokes are in bloom.
