Borage Species, Starflower (Borago officinalis)

Borage (Borago officinalis) blooms hang downward so you usually see the bottoms of the blooms. The true blue of the blooms contrast nicely with the beautiful foliage. In early morning and late afternoon sunlight, the blooms appear to be a bright neon blue.

The bright blue, star-shaped flowers bloom most of the summer

Borage's wrinkled, crinkled deeply veined and puckered foliage. The plant is slightly greyer/silveryier than in picture.

Some borage flowers will pop up pink.... often it is the older ones turning pink as they age. They look very pretty with the other blue ones nearby. :)

I always look for plants with blue flowers, and the true blue of these is just delightful!!!

A view of the face of a Borage (Borago officinalis) 1 inch bloom showing the 5 intensely blue star-shaped petals and the prominent purple stamen column.

Borage (Borago officinalis) is a quite hairy plant.

Borage (Borago officinalis) leaves are hairy bothe along the edges and the surfaces. They can have a narrow extension as they attach to the leaf petiole.

Borage (Borago officinalis) blooms as seen from the backside and bloom buds. The blue color of the blooms is more intense if the plant is grown in poor soil.
