Ficus Species, Rock Fig (Ficus petiolaris subsp. palmeri)

Huntington Gardens cold frame specimen fruiting in July, Pasadena California

f. Palmeri in situ 100M from Sea of Cortez south of Punta Frailles. Tree measures over 25M (80') Likely blown over by hurricane many year ago. kept trimmed by goats to expose trunk.

We have visited this tree several times on the eastern tip of baja CA. We call it the "Hurricane" fig. It doesn't grow in length because goats take terminal growth.

looking towards the Sea of Cortez - note the hollow crotch - it is full of honey beehive. the tree extends over 18M across. It grows less than an inch in any direction/year. How old??

Another pot for old Ficus. It did not like a shallow pot.
