use of manual, mechanical or chemical means to discourage the growth of unwanted, (usually) fast growing and/or invasive plants.Choice of method depends on several factors: gardener's preference/philosophy,habits of the plant and location of unwanted plant.Total weed control is generally accepted as an unachievable goal!!

This is an old adage which is so true if we fail to weed the garden for one year, we will face the trouble for seven years!
