Definition of bottom watering

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by mystic:

Sitting pots or flats in a flat or tray of water until moisture appears on the surface. Don't leave plants standing in water for any length of time - just long enough for the top of the soil to get moist.

Bottom watering is a good method for seedlings so they are not damaged by streams of water, and it encourages deep root development. This is especially good for plants that don't like their leaves wet (e.g., African violets)
