Definition of late blight

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by Terry:

A wind-borne disease affecting the Solanum family (namely tomatoes and potatoes), caused by Phytophthora infestans. It is a very serious disease of potato crops, and caused the Irish potato famine.

Using certified seed potatoes will reduce the risk of late blight; if it manifests itself, it may be treated with appropriate fungicidal sprays.
