Definition of compacted soil

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by Terry:

Soil that has been compressed by foot traffic or by vehicles or equipment driven over it. Soils that are heavy or predominantly clay are more prone to compaction.

Eventually compacted soil is difficult for roots, oxygen and moisture to penetrate. Regular aeration in heavy traffic areas of the lawn can help to minimize the negative effects of compaction.
