A technique used where the soil surrounding a plant is mounded against the main stem to blanch or otherwise prevent light from affecting a crop.

Leeks, Dandelions and Celery are often blanched in this manner, it also help potato haulms and tubers to develop and prevents light from reching the tubers and turning them green and poisonous.
