The internationally recognized Latin name of a plant that will be descriptive of the feature of the plant, or will commemorate a person connected with it. The name of the species will consist of two parts, the genus name and the specific epithet. This system was first started in 1753 by a Swedish botanist, Linnaeus. See also binomial nomenclature and botanical name.
