Definition of chionophile

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by Leftwood:

From the Russian word chion, meaning snow, and the Greek word philia, meaning brotherly love. Literally, snow lover.

In the plant world (and in the strict sense), it refers to plants that require winter snow cover to survive. But also denotes those that endure long snowy winters. Sometimes spelled chianophile.
