Plants which are continuously inhabited by certain species of ants, providing food and/or shelter. There are 3 distinctions among myrmecophilous plants:

myrmecotrophic plants provide only food (e.g., exuding sugars, or providing seed or fruit);
myrmecodomic plants provide shelter to ants;
myrmecoxenic plants provide both shelter and food.
