Definition of hummingbird feeder

Categorized under "General"

Definition as written by Terry:

A plastic or glass container with a lid that also works as a food tray. The feeder is typically turned upside down to fill with hummingbird food then inverted and usually suspended for hummingbirds to drink from.

The feeders can be constructed of many materials, and can be quite small or large. Be sure the food you provide is routinely changed to ensure it hasn't become contaminated. Hummingbird feeders should be carefully cleaned using mostly water and very small amounts of detergent, then thoroughly rinsed. Residue or trace amounts of household cleaner can be fatal to the tiny birds.
