A colorful, portable handbook for seasoned gardeners or absolute beginners. It covers 12 states in the Northern Great Plains, the Central Great Plains, and the Midwestern section of the Great Lakes area. The handbook divides herb and vegetable plants into cool season and warm season sections. Each plant shows recommended varieties for Midwest growing. I enjoyed the section in the preface called \'Never Too Ugly To Eat\', which shows how \"your garden does not have to be gorgeous to do well\". Contains much practical advice, the best being: \"Get out there and get your hands dirty! Get the book dirty, too! That\'s what it\'s for.\"
