It is hard to understand how someone could post a negative comment about McKenzie Farms Nursery. Especially when the person posting the negative has had no transaction take place nor has any money been exchanged.

Irresponsible seller, not sure how he manage his family members to make that many positive feedback. I tested out his nursery reputation by tried to order 2 citrangequat trees but they were out of stock, then I asked to order seeds. He agreed and stated to send out 40-50 citrangequat seeds for $10. He then contacted me to claim that citrangequat was nearly seedless, so he could only collect 15 seeds. I was so nice to agree with him for 15 instead of 40-50 seeds as he promised. It took very long to received the small package of 16 ridiculousy small and bad seeds covered in mold that I had to discard away to prevent the spread of mold in my house.
I contacted him and he responded back saying "you could have planted them anyway.. Im sure they would still germ even with the mold. I have planted molded citrus seeds many times in years past and they will still grow. If you can retrieve them from the trash. plant them anyway.. they should be fine. Sorry the post office took two weeks to deliver this package! Stan"
I know it is not worth it to do anything for $10, I was appreciated him very much until I finally figured it out that his nursery was so irresponsible. As a professional citrus grower, don't he know that mold pore could spread and became a problem the environment inside the house.
Never come back. I blocked his email as well.

I would like to remove this comment but it does not allow me to remove it; however, I already changed the feedback to positive.
I followed his advice and retrieved those seeds from the trash to test to see if they really can germinate as he claimed, and yes one seed did and mold spreaded all over the surface of the pot soil. The only seed germinated about 2 months ago and still survived til now though not very vigorous. I still wanted to appologize to Mr. Mckenzie about frustrated comment.
It finally not totally his fault, but in my opinion he should have washed the seeds thoroughly or treated with mild bleech before packing.
Anyway, just wantd to say "I am sorry".On June 6th, 2019, lavender87 changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following:

I live in Wilmington, NC and am starting a food forest on my lot. As Wilmington is in Zone 8a, I wanted to try and grow citrus but I couldn't find anyone in Wilmington that had citrus trees growing outside.
I came across McKenzie Farms while cruising the interwebs and I just can't express how happy I was that I found a person who lives near me, just on the hairy edge of the temperate climate zone, dedicating their life to cultivating beautiful, cold hardy citrus.
The owner, Stan, was kind, knowledgeable, and generous to me. I've never met someone so excited about citrus and I had a blast as he toured me around his place, showing me all the wonderful rare fruit trees he's cultivating.
I left McKenzie farms with 2 paw paws, 2 Satsuma madarins (Brown), grapefruit (bloomsweet), lime (persian), ichang lemon, yuzu lemon, orangquat (nippon), and pineapple guava. It's been several days and I'm already seeing new growth on each plant.
I'm very happy with my experience and will be back in the future (with my eye on tanegrines and citrangquats)!

This week my wife and I went to visit Stan at his farm. We purchased 2 different satsuma varieties and 2 meyer lemons. We also purchased a yellow/orange canna and a jelly palm. I live nearly 200 miles away and could easily have had the plants shipped to my home. I also could have purchased from another vendor for close to the same price. However, I prefer to have that 1 on 1 conversation with a seller that has decades of experience and the patience to answer all my dumb questions. Stan is that kind of seller. He truly loves his business and it shows in the quality of the plants and his customer service.

Its hard to contact him, its been a few days and there is no response. Tried to ask him what do the plants look like for a type of plant that wasn't listed on his website and he said "Yeah we have only 1 left in stock" and i asked (1st time because he said they sprayed a strong pesticide on them) can i see the photo and then he just stops talking to me. It was easy to contact him but he just stops contacting. Charges me 20 dollars (+10 for shipping) for a plant that has been spayed with a STRONG PESTICIDE, if the plant is that messed up why not give a discount? On November 7th, 2016, Garlique changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following:
^ what a great comment by my stupid friend. I was on a trip to Augusta, GA and he decided to go on my computer and look through my emails. sorry for my ignorant friend and i will be talking to him very soon after this. once again sorry for my stupid friend, and despite my ignorant friend. McKenzie Farms Nursery is actually a good place. Easy contact and IS a great person to talk to. Would you care to show proof that you were charged 30.00?That is totally unfounded. Sorry you are not happy with our customer service. I suggest you locate a dragon lime elsewhere.
I purchased some citrus trees from Stan last summer, along with a fig, kiwi, and pomegranate. The citrus trees were gorgeous, as well as the other plants. But, the lime and lemon trees actually produced fruit last summer! I was amazed, as most nurseries say it takes a couple of years. Alas, even though I put them into a little hobby greenhouse, something happened and the trees died, certainly no fault of MCKENZIE FARMS, but my lack of knowledge. I am ordering several more for this year.
Stan is also a great person to talk to and ask advice on the care and growth of citrus trees. He is meticulous in how he packs the trees. They came to me beautifully wrapped and packaged.
I will order my citrus trees from Stan, always.

Stan is the citrus man.
Wanted an early maturing Satsuma and Stan personally
took the time to help me with exactly what I wanted.
In 3 days the tree was on my doorstep, and came with
at least 20 fruit already on it.
Been a week and it hasn't shed the first leaf.
Plan to stop by Mckenzie Farms On my way to the beach
Great job Stan and thanks a million.

McKenzie Nursery really needs to be a DG "Top Five". I spoke with Mr. McKenzie both by phone and email. He was very quick to respond to my voicemail and to email. He was extremely friendly and helpful. He took my order directly, shipped the plant the next day (Friday), and I received it on Monday. It was healthy and in excellent condition.
In addition to the excellent service and healthy plant, the prices are unbeatable. Similar plants from other nurseries were 2 - 3 times the price. I'll be placing all of my future orders for hardy citrus with Mr McKenzie!Company representative comment on March 18, 2013: On Mar 18, 2013 5:37 PM, McKenzie Farms Nursery responded with:
Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate your taking time to rate my little business!
I have placed two orders with this company, last Spring (2010) and this Spring. Both times the orders were taken directly by the owner of the company , Stan McKenzie, who also confirmed shipping directly by personal email (not computer generated form "confirmation" like most other businesses)
The citrus trees I have received have been well packed and in great condition.
This is not a re-seller. They grow everything they sell on their family farm.
With the help of Stan, there, we selected and ordered several grafted-hybrid citrus trees. (Kumquats and varients that we'll use as container plants, since we're Zone 5 here.)
They arrived very promptly, and very well packed. This was all the more surprising since the shipping charges were rather modest.
Because of his methods of packing, the trees actually arrived with a number of very delicate looking blooms still intact!
We have been burnt in the past trying internet orders of trees, but I have to say this transaction with McKenzie has renewed our faith.
Proof that at least a few very, very good firms remain in this industry, and we will order again from them.

Stan is indeed "the man" :)
Since leaving southern California, I have badly wanted to grow citrus (as well as palm trees) in the southeast, where I live now, but was only able to find pathetic, mostly inedible citrus trees that when shipped looked rather sad. And of course since no one at the nurseries I looked into knew much about growing cold-hardy citrus, I didn't know how to grow or protect what I'd ordered.
But then I came across McKenzie Farms! Stan was extremely helpful not only in helping me choose a good starter tree for my area (Athens, GA, which is borderline 7b/8a) but selecting a place to plant it and lots of advice on how to take care of it. He suggested an LA Early satsuma mandarin, given that it should ripen before we get our first real freezes here.
As a really nice bonus, the tree came well branched out WITH FRUIT ON IT--6 small green mandarins that will hopefully give us fruit this October. That unexpected but generous touch really made my day as I opened the carefully packed and extremely healthy looking tree.
Thanks, Stan! I will be ordering again--as many trees as my wife will let me plant around the house ;)

Stan had great communitcation. He helped me choose the plants that would thrive in my area, and held onto them until our cold snap was over.
When they arrived they were good sized and very healthy. The kumquat tree was loaded with nearly ripe fruit!
autremike Ludlow, MA (Zone 5b) (20 reviews) April 18, 2007
I ordered four trees for maximum hardiness here in MA, after e-mailing him for advice and help in deciding the best ones. I thought all citrus was tropical, but there are many that can take the cold down around 0 degrees F!
I have an attached garage with a big window that stays above 25 all winter even when it is -15 outside. I wish I could plant them outside like him in South Carolina, but pots will have to do.
They just arrived and were perfectly packed for the trip - the soil stayed in the pots and the stems were well protected.
My e-mails were answered very quickly, even one time when he was on the road out of town.
Next time I want to order some 10 degree tangerines.

Stan was just a pleasure to deal with. He made sure I received my limequat on a particular date and the plant was healthy and full of blossoms. He took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns. If you are looking for quality plants and customer service I would highly recommend McKenzie Farms.

Stan was very prompt in corresponding about the "yuzu" when I asked if it was available during the hot summer months. I was concerned about having the plant sent across the country to Oregon, but he e-mailed me when he sent the plant, and it arrived in perfect condition two days later. I have bought many plants by mail order, but Stan's plant was absolutely perfect in size, shape and condition. His love for his plants is obvious. I highly recommend him.
I contacted Stan via e-mail about a kumquat tree. This man is truly a gift from god. He is full of information and his service was EXCELLENT!!! He is very honest, knowledgable, and caring. I had searched all over for this citrus tree and it was outrageous in price. His prices are very reasonable and his plant quality was unbelievable. He was very quick to reply to my e-mails and I felt touched to have just conversed via e-mail, he actually cares. I purchased this tree for my Dad and the smile on his face was worth a million bucks and I will always cherish that smile. Thanks again, If I ever purchase another citrus it will diffently come from Stan the Citrus Man.
Thanks to Stan McKenzie we are closer than ever to being in our OWN nursery business.....
We made a 540 mile,(one way),trip from Bear Creek, Al to Scranton to meet with this fine gentleman. After arriving we "went to work." Stan gave us a crash course in Citrus & we learned more in 15 minutes with him, than we had in 2 previous outings in our area. THIS MAN KNOWS HIS STUFF!!!! (He even found us a good motel room in the area).
I promise you, if you want an honest businessman, that knows his product, Stan McKenzie @ McKenzie Farms is your man....(no bull here, just the truth & nothing but the truth).
I think we found a friend for life.
P.S. Thanks for the cabbage Stan....no collards please..lol

I ordered other plants from another company at same time as my first purchase with Stan.. The price was more than double that of Stan's. The trees I received from the other company were a bit larger at the time but NOT worth the price I paid. Since then the trees from Stan have out performed the Pricier plants from the other company..
I am an addict for sure!!! and Stan Provides the best FIX for my addiction!!! ;)

McKenzie Nursery and Stan is a wealth of information to anyone interested in growing citrus. His nursery sent me four trees, which were well packed and in good health, and he informed me of the date they were shipped so that I could anticipate their arrival. You wont find better customer service than that given by McKenzie Farms. The cold hardy citrus varieties they sell are rare and hard to find...as matter of fact, I rate this as the best cold hardy citrus variety collection I have ever seen. I intend to buy more plants from Stan the Citrus man.
This company is amazing! Stan is helpful and always answers questions promptly. The yuzu tree arrived quickly and in excellent condition. It is now the pride of my northern New Mexican garden. Who would have thought I could grow citrus here? Wonderful! Mara van der Pas
A positive experience indeed!
Mr. Mckenzie guided me in the selection of his hardiest specimens and their delivery was in a timely manner. Mr. Mckenzie held excellent correspondence from beginning introductions through final transaction and delivery of his seedlings. I look forward to doing business in the future (and learning more about citrus) from this helpful and knowledgable person.

I made a trip to Mckenzie farms to purchase some hardy citrus trees. Stan stopped his work and gave me a tour of his nursery and all the citrus plants he grows. This man is diffently serious and knowledgeable about his citrus he even offered me a cool citrus soft drink afterwards while we sat and talked. I had an enjoyable time and left with three citrus trees. Thanks Stan look forward to seeing you again.
I ordered a Changsha Mandarin and a Satsuma from Stan after exchanging a couple of mails regarding what would have a chance of surviving in the cool Zone 8 of Seattle. Stan responded quickly and it was clear that he actually cared about getting me the right citrus instead of just making a sale.
The trees arrived in EXCELLENT shape and just as described by Stan (large, healthy and as good condition as a local nursery). Stan had taken a lot of trouble to pack it just right so that the plants wouldnt suffer the long trip from South Carolina. Its been about a week since I got the plants and they are doing very nicely.
This was the first time I ordered plants over the Internet. Stan made this a very pleasant experience!
A wonderful experience. I have nothing but great things to say. I got some trees (already flowering and with fruit), a tour of the farm, a 30 minute crash course in citrus along with a care sheet for reference. I even got a lemonaide for the road. It feels good to do business with someone who truly loves and is proud of what they do. I am sure I will return once I figure out how I can grow more. I am so thankful that I stumbled onto this place and took the roadtrip. As Stan the citrusman would say, 'Why Orange you growing citrus?'.

I have been interested in cold hardy citrus for some time now and have been lucky enough to have stumbled onto Stan's website. I was so impressed w/ the selection that I made a special trip out from Virginia Beach to buy some larger specimens that he stated were too large to ship. Stan is very knowledgeable friendly and honest. I cant imagine anyone more helpful and eager to spread knowledge about cold hardy citrus. I was even lucky enough to get a mini tour of his farm. I encourage any other "citri-holics" to order from him for they will not be dissapointed.

Ordered from McKenzie Farms Last year. Pricings, service and Quality were Outstanding. Had several questions about Citrus, so I emailed Mr McKenzie and received helpful and informative replys. Since I only live about 80 miles from McKenzie farms, while on a field trip with my daughters elementary school, decided to try an stop by the farms on our way home to check it out. This is a family operation and Stan McKenzie is an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable. We got a nice tour, bought a 10 degree Tangerine to plant at home and even got a lesson on how to bud graft. If your looking for a sincere, hard working person that truly cares about what he grows and sells, this is a great place to visit. He also runs a working farm that grows many vegetables. I highly reccomend McKenzie farms if your looking for quality cold hardy citrus.

Having never owned any type of citrus other than a meyers lemon I really didnt know much about them.Through several e-mail contacts (he responds VERY quickly) I found the right trees for my climate. They arrived very quickly and I thought they were underpriced for the great quality I recieved. Each was 3 feet tall and healthy.I will surely order more in the future!

I ordered hardy citrus trees from McKenzie Farms and am extremely pleased. Stan the Citrusman grows his own trees, and unconditionally guarantees total satisfaction. His knowledge coupled with a selection of very rare citrus types make his product line unbeatable. I have ordered hardy citrus from other firms in the past and paid much more, and got much less. I recommend McKenzie Farms without reservation, and will gladly order from them in the future. Five stars for service, product and honest value.
I had heard of this nursery for several years but had never had any dealings with them until this year. I placed an order for several cold hardy citrus. Most of the plants were very large and all healthy and vigorous looking. I am very pleased with this company and will certainly order from them again in the future.

Stan has a large stock of cold hardey citrus. I recently drove up from Charleston to purchase a few trees and was very impressed with his knowledge & guidance in caring for the trees. I will be driving back up to see Stan again after the holidays to load up on many more "quality" trees.
Stan runs a very honest online business, something you don't see very often these days. A+++ for McKenzie Farms !!!

It doesn't get any better than this! From knowledgeable answers to complex questions
and to the "TLC" packing of his plants "Stan's the man"! He has the hard to find ones
that hardcore collectors seek. Every experience that I've had with this operation has been
A-1. It's getting risky for shipping to Colorado now but I'll be coming back to McKenzie
Farms Nursery in the spring for more outstanding citrus plants. Five (5) stars! *****

My first order for rare citrus was reasonably priced and I expected tiny trees. I received really nice size trees, delivered promptly, and very well packaged. I am so impressed with the quality of trees and the level of service. No other mail order nursery even comes close!
Stan is simply the best in the business. I recently visited his nursery in person & purchased some beautiful, hard to find plants. If you are looking for absolute quality & superior customer service then this is the place. He offers an excellent variety of citrus, palms & other out of the ordinary plants. I highly recommend giving him a call if you're looking for something you can't seem to locate - you'll be glad you did.
I have placed 5 orders now with Stan McKenzie over the past 3 years. Every plant I have ordered has arrive very healthy, in the pot, very well packed and ready to go into the ground. Stan always answers any questions promptly and his knowledge of hardy citrus is second to none.
This is the only mail order business I deal with amymore for subtropicals and hardy citrus. I look forward to ordering many more times in the future.
Absolutely, the best online gardening experience ever. Mr. McKenzie keeps informed on your order. Other garden sites that you order from the plant you receive doesn’t look like the picture on the site. I was pleasantly surprise when I open the box these where beautiful plants.
