Positive | tammi_u Madison, OH (1 review) May 17, 2014 | This is to the person who claims they received Styrofoam in their plant media...first, thank you for the laugh today...that was hilarious. Second, it WAS perlite that was in your growing media. In horticulture, perlite can be used as a soil amendment or alone as a medium for hydroponics or for starting cuttings. When used as an amendment it has high permeability / low water retention and helps prevent soil compaction. |
Negative | AlbaSurf Davenport, IA (1 review) May 2, 2014 | This company puts styrofoam in the potting media of some of their plants. The one in particular I have experience with are the blueberry vines. I contacted the company and merely inquired as to whether the styrofoam in these plants was from shipping or if it was actually added to the media. They denied using styrofoam at all - said it was "perlite" and offered to send me a sample. I agreed and the sample of "perlite" they sent me was nothing more than flattened clumps of styrofoam beads. Perlite is non-flammable. The substance they sent me fully combusted upon being lit with a match. Don't put plants of theirs into your garden or landscaping without checking to make sure there isn't any styrofoam or you will be littering on your own property. |
Positive | plantgnome Coram, NY (26 reviews) January 15, 2009 | ordered a Red Twig Dogwood and it arrived quickly, already about 3 feet tall with a healthy root ball. Its doing well so far. Will be ordering more shrubs come spring. Try them out-i found their name thru my garden gate mag. |
