Apparently, Green Mountain has gone downhill in 2019 where all the negative reviews start.
On July 29, my order was confirmed and it stated that it would be fulfilled on August 29 give or take 3 days. I thought that was bad enough. It is now September 6 and nothing has happened. I e-mailed. I phoned and nothing. So from the reviews, I figure I will not be getting these hostas. It's a pity to see a business failing.
I ordered my hostas on April 23rd and received my hostas on July 1st. I was able to reach Green Mountain hostas via Facebook Messenger. I would send a message and within a week would receive a response. She explained delay and asked if I mind waiting. I asked if I could receive by July 1st and she agreed. Upon receiving, I received a surplus of what I ordered and they were the healthiest hostas.
Yes, I waited nearly two months, but consider they were priced a great deal lower than their competitors, Iíd say approximately $8 less than their competitors, it was definitely worth the wait. I could not have ordered the quantity I ordered if it wasnít for their pricing. Also, the quality was excellent. I would not hesitate ordering from Green Mountain Hosta again.
I ordered in May 19....never heard from them after numerous emails and phone calls...eventually phone messages were full on their end/no way to reach a person....had to negotiate refund from credit card....they are totally irresponsible.....DO NOT ORDER FROM THESE PEOPLE
DO NOT ORDER!! I placed an online order from Green Mountain Hosta on May 19, 2019. I spend over $300 on their products. I received a confirmation my order was placed, and then no other communication. On May 30th, I sent an email inquiring when my plants would ship and I received a reply that day stating "we are experiencing a serious backlog due to weather and an unusual amount of orders. I will see where you are in the dig schedule tonight when I'm in from the fields and get back to you as soon as I know more information. Kind regards, Janet" That was they last I heard from the company. I sent another email on June 4th, on June 14th, placed a call to them on June 18th, and posted a message to them on Facebook on June 29th. None of these forms of contact have been returned and I have no plants. As of today, July 11th, I requested a refund of the money for my order. This way of conducting business is inappropriate, shows poor integrity and a complete lack of customer service. I have made a report to BBB.
A friend and I ordered from Green Mountain back in January of 2019. It was our first time ordering from this company. When we received orders from 5 other companies for hostas and our order from GM was still not here, I tried calling (several times) and emailing (many more times). Only one time did they get back to me saying I would be informed when I was on the "dig" schedule. After trying to contact them without any response, I filed a claim with PayPal and received a refund since I could see our order going nowhere. I would rather have had the hostas I ordered than get a refund. I can't believe they updated their webpage for 2019 and are still taking orders!!! On their website their guarantee says "Green Mountain Hosta guarantees that all of our varieties are free of virus and harmful nematodes (we test extensively). Your plants will arrive in the same healthy condition as when they were shipped. We also guarantee that all plants are true to name. Your satisfaction is important. Please notify our hosta farm immediately if there is any problem."
Please notify our hosta farm if there is a problem? WHAT? There is no way to contact them. Even PayPal tried to resolve this issue and received no communication from them.
I am very disappointed as I would have loved to have received the hostas, but live and learn I guess.
My order was placed 4/22/2019 ....after a few emails I rec'd a response with notice that my order was in the packing area to be shipped on 5/28/2019....after 10 days and no shipment...
I sent another email, and another and another finally on 6/20/2019 I rec'd a response of 3 options:.
ONE offering an inconvenience partial? refund to customers willing to wait until they get their hostas (with no guarantee ship date...I guess that means before fall planting? ).
TWO same partial refund and change to fall planting.
THREE a full refund.
I find it hard to believe that the business cannot project an estimated time frame for processing an order.
Placed order in Jan. 2019 - After inquiring was told delivery around Mothers Day. After more emails it was going to be Late-May, then early June. Have asked for a refund, delivery date... Correspondence has dwindled.. Will go to big box store, $100 + order still in limbo.. Not recommended at this time.
First time to place order with Green Mountain Hosta. Order was placed on 4/20/19 and paid through paypal account. Have not received order and have called and emailed several times with only one response stating that they were extremely back logged and that they were offering partial inconvenience refunds to customers who can wait or wanted to change their ship date to the fall planting window ( If I had wanted to plant in the fall, I would have ordered at that time) or they would offer a full refund. ( Good luck with that!) My response was that I wanted to know when the projected ship date was and based on that I would decide if I wanted to wait or ask for refund. It has been crickets with no response. I emailed again last week asking for full refund, again crickets. I want a full refund, so I can shop else where. Thank you.
I placed an order on April 3, paid for it via PayPal, received an confirmation, and the payment for the order was processed on the same day, April 3, 2019. I have not yet received my order. I have emailed them and tried to call them (mail box is full so can't leave a message). As this was ordered through PayPal, I did dispute this the end of May. At that time I was contacted by the seller saying that they were way behind and I was in queue digging, but I haven't seen the order yet. As I have closed the dispute with PayPal, I can no longer ask for resolution through them. I have since sent several emails starting with inquiring about the order and finally telling them to cancel the order and refund my money. I have yet to hear from them or get a refund.
In February I ordered 3 Hostas from Green Mountain and requested delivery for the week of 4/22. When they did not come, I emailed and got a prompt reply that their ground had just thawed and they would notify me when they shipped. The plants have never come. I checked their web site a few times and saw two different messages about their delays. I finally gave up on 6/20 and requested a refund.
I had hoped that this company might be a good source to replace the (now gone) Hosta Guy. But good selection, plant quality and prices are useless if you do not deliver.
First time ordering from them. Same experiences like the previous few comments this year. Ordered on May 25. They took my money immediately. Tried calling multiple times and emailed three times. Still no response from the company.
I guess that is lost money and time. Lucky it was a small order.
I placed an order on 4/6/2019. After multiple emails and phone calls I have only received one short email response stating that according to my order date I should be on the dig schedule soon. It is now June and I still have not been able to get a ship date. Perhaps the plants will arrive at some point but I doubt I will ever place another order with this company.
I placed an order on May 6, 2019 and as of June 1, 2019 the only thing I've heard from them was a response to a message sent to them. They said I was on the waiting list to dig, that was May 18, 2019. It is quite evident they are under staffed.
When I stumbled on this website, the prices seemed too good to be true, so I placed a small order. All arrived bare root, carefully wrapped and very healthy. I ordered a dozen more hostas, with the same excellent result. A few of the miniatures contained multiple tiny plants, which I immediately divided and shared. All were healthy and robust by fall. I canít wait to get more in the spring.

I'm so glad I took a chance on this company!
Ordered over $100 to qualify for free shipping. What I received were large multiple eyes and THE CLEANEST roots that I have ever seen. Seriously, the roots were immaculately rinsed and lovingly packed in moist shredded newspaper, individually bagged and labeled.
It's been two months since I've received and planted my order, and the "new" plants are already almost as large as some of older, more established hostas.
Received my second order this year. The first was in very early spring, so little foliage, but great roots. My current order was for 13 giant hosta. I received 16 pounds (free shipping over $100) of huge, mature divisions in excellent condition. Sent out one day and delivered the next. Only a 3 hour drive away, but still excellent service.
I have them all planted and it is an instant mature garden of 10 Lakeside Cha Chas winding between the 3 absolutely huge and gorgeous Frosted Jades.
Instant gratification and complete satisfaction with Green Mountain Hostas. 'A' number one in my book. I will not hesitate to order from them again and do not hesitate to recommend them.
I ordered twice from Green Mountain last summer and once again (so far!) this summer. All the plants were huge and healthy. The hostas that I planted last year are all doing well, except for 2 that the dog stepped on, but that is hardly GM's fault. I'm very pleased with my experience.
In April, I ordered over 160 plants on a single order. They arrived 8 days later, very well packed, labeled and HUGE! The roots were washed well, only slightly trimmed, and packed in damp shredded newspaper. I've ordered from other online shops in the past, only to get a very small plant, or even a tissue sample. But with GreenMountain Hosta, multiple eyes was the norm rather then the exception. Even the jumbo's hosta's had 3+ eyes. Out of all 160 plants, not a single casualty. They have been in the ground for only 2 weeks - and every one is performing well, much better then expected. I will definitely be using GreenMountain again this fall.
I've received two orders from Green Mountain this year and just placed another. Plants I received in early spring were barefoot and leafless, but pips were showing. I planted in pots to be assured they would grow and was pleased with their superb performance. The order I received last week included huge plants. Only one of 16 had foliage trimmed, as they stated might happen because it's late in the season. But the root is huge and I can see there will be several eyes. Honestly, the crown area looks like a cut onion, it's big! I've ordered from Four nurseries this year and the plants from Green Mountain are, by far, the BEST,

If I could only order from one company for hostas, this would be it, hands down.
Yesterday I received the third order I have place with them in the last 12 or 13 months. ALL have been exceptional. I receive more biomass in ONE plant than I can receive from as many as TEN from other companies, and that\'s not an outlier. All their plants are very large, some more than others, but all at the top of the curve for size. Add that prices are the lowest, and you have an easy, no-brainer, stop right here, winner.
The ONLY negative I have to say is their selection is limited. It is large for sure, but it is limited compared to most of the other large hosta suppliers. Part of this, I believe, is due to the possibility they remove a plant they cannot ship from their inventory. I have seen plants listed one day and gone a day or two later. If they are taking them off, THANK YOU, for not wasting my time. If you see it here, just get it before I do.

I placed another order, and had in hand by the end of the week, giving them another feather in their cap for fast shipping. This order did have one small issue, however. The plants were packed in a box slightly too small, giving some of them a decent case of "bed head" and a few bent leaves on others upon unpacking. Nothing that can't be fixed with a little TLC, but still shouldn't happen. All the plants are now (a week and a half later) just fine and no worse for wear. Still my top choice!

I was concerned about the size/quality of Green Mountain\'s hostas since most were $1-$3 cheaper than other sites (especially for small varieties).
I ordered 31 small, medium & large varieties. My order arrived in 3 business days. The plants were gorgeous and had large roots systems. They were well packed and each of the 12 varieties were labeled.
I was so pleased that the day after those were planted I ordered another 8 varieties of large & giant plants and then added 2 mediums to get free shipping.

Last week I had ordered 23 hosta from Green Mountain Hosta Nursery late in the afternoon. The hosta were shipped the very next day and I received them just 2 days later. I didn't want any hosta to add to my collection, I just needed some of the less expensive hosta to plant along the driveway and I was very happy with their prices. The hosta that I received were beautiful. Not one leaf was broken during shipping. Some of the shorter varieties had clumps that were so large that I was able to divide one plant into 5 plants by just separating with my fingers. The roots were massive. I spoke to the owner on the phone and he was very informative and helped me choose the hosta that I needed (color, size & price) The only thing that I disliked was the way that shredded wet newspaper was used to cover the roots for shipping. It caused a mess in my yard as I was planting. I'm thankful that it wasn't a windy day. If I place another order from this company I will request that they use wet newspaper or paper towels to wrap around the roots as other online companies do. I highly recommend this online nursery if you're looking for big, beautiful hostas that are shipped quickly and have great prices.

I just want to tell you how pleased I am with my hosta order (38 ordered) that I received this past Thursday. I never expected to receive large clumps or the large plants that you sent. I had brought down gallon size pots before they arrived, and my husband had bought me 10 bags of 2 cubic foot potting soil for potting. I did not use the first gallon sized pot. I had to use 2 and 3 gallon pots and 7 of the bags of soil. It took 4 days for the 2 large boxes of hostas to arrive. Each hosta was just as fresh as the day it was shipped. The roots of each hosta were wrapped in wet shredded paper and placed in a clear plastic bag which also protected the foliage during shipping. A thick layer of shredded paper was in the bottom and top of the box. Not one hosta leaf was bent, broken, or damaged in any way. I am telling all my hosta friends about Green Mountain Hosta Nursery, and I will be a repeat customer. You have a great selection at unbeatable prices. Your flat rate shipping rate is very affordable. Thank you for offering free shipping as well which I took advantage. When one orders as many as I did, it is easy to run up high shipping costs quickly. I will also add that I received another hosta order the same day that yours arrived. It was from a nursery that has great reviews on Dave's Garden and charges significantly higher prices than Green Mountain. The other nursery's hostas looked puny next to Green Mountain's. I happened to order the same hosta from both nurseries. Your hosta was at least 3 times the size of the other nursery and had huge leaves. Need I say more!!!
Ordered some Hostas 6/17/14 and received them yesterday, 6/30/14. I was a little worried about the lack of shipping information on the website, and had no idea what to expect. I received 4 giant hostas, and they all arrived in perfect condition. They were much larger than I thought they would be, and had great developed root systems. Not a tear or bent leaf. Very pleased --- and loved the 10$ shipping. If I buy more hostas, I will definitely buy them from Green Mountain.

Just wanted to concur with all the positive reviews here, as I've placed three orders with Green Mountain in 2013. This is a very underrated company that sells very nice-sized hosta with great root systems, and their prices are excellent as well. Order 100 bucks worth of plants, and they'll send your order with no shipping charges. It's VERY easy to get to 100 bucks while putting an order together!
So far, 3 orders, over 60 plants received, and I've been happy with all of them. I intend to purchase more hosta from them in spring 2014. Great company, great prices, great plants, and all packaged very well for shipping.

I just received 7 hosta from these folks. It's late in the season, so they had already gone dormant, but the roots were HUGE. They all seemed to be outstanding specimens. They were well packed and received in good condition. I will definitely order from them again.
I just received my order of mostly large and variegated hostas, and I couldn't be happier. The shipping was fast, and the plants were large (much larger than I have ever gotten from any other company) and in great condition. The roots were moist and very healthy, and they were well packed. I'm very pleased with the quick service and will order again.

I found Green Mountain Hosta Nursery as a result of a Google source check, then went to this site to look for comments good or bad by customers. I found only a few, however, all were positive, Green Mountain's web site was very informative and their prices were very competitive. They indicated that their plants were field grown, which led me to conclude that they would be larger plants. I telephoned with a few questions , received candid and complete answers and I was given all the time I needed to be completely confident of Green Mountain. So I decided to place an order. I ordered 18 varieties. My plants came within a few days, I inspected them, all were packed perfectly [almost with love!], I was unable to unpack and plant for 6 days. Since they were so well packed in their own individual containers, packed bareroot and protectively wraped , they were still in perfect condition. Well when I actually unpacked the plants I was amazed at how big they were, the roots were huge and went on foreverrrrrrrrrrr. Of the 18 plants 16 were multiple eyes, some as many as 12 eyes. The 2 with single eyes had new ones coming and were both giant varieties. They were all planted on May 22; the roots/plants were so large that they all had to be planted in 2 and 3 gallon containers. Now 10 days later all are beautifully greened up, all giant size in the pots.
Am I a happy camper? you bet! So Happy that I ordered another 25 varieties today. I have been promised shipment tomorrow or the next day.

I ordered 3 hostas on Sat. 6/8 and they are in the ground today, Thur. 6/13. I was surprised at how big the plants were and also how developed the root were. I found the prices to be reasonable, and better than my local nurseries in some cases.
Not only will I buy from Green Mountain again, I am going to send business their way!
I ordered two Royal Standard Hostas, and they arrived today. The shipping was fast, and the plants were in great condition. Each plant was bare rooted, but they were well packed. The roots were moist and very healthy, and each hosta had three eyes, which I believe is quite a bargain, since the plants only cost $5.00 each + s&h.
As far as I'm concerned, Green Mountain Hosta Nursery is one of the best hosta nurseries out there. Judy and Michael Lang do a really great job. I will definitely order from them again when I need some more hostas.
Green Mountain is such an underrated company. I state this as someone who has purchased from and loves that GWD Top 5 hosta nursery based in Cement City, MI. Green Mountain is right up there with HG. Granted, Green Mountain doesn't carry all of the latest and greatest cultivars, but what they do carry are, with few exceptions, heads and shoulders above every other online hosta nursery in terms of plant/root size and price -- particularly the older, classic cultivars. Last year I bought H. Bill Brinka and H. Wide Brim, and the plants were massive. This year I bought H. Radiant Edger and H. Lemon Lime, and again I was floored by what I received. Unless hosta gardeners are trying to keep Green Mountain their best-kept secret, I don't understand why the nursery isn't more popular and acclaimed on GWD.
