I ordered the "Select Mixed Daylilies" collection which was supposed to be a group of 10, but I actually got 12, and they were huge- the root balls bigger then my hand, all of them had green growth at the tops and fat, healthy roots. I have never seen such "bare root" plants (which usually look shriveled and dead) these are fantastic, and I cannot wait to see what different colors they are when they start blooming.

I am thrilled with the daylilies I ordered from this company! I am so glad I found Oakes here on Dave's Garden. I love daylilies, but have had problems getting itty bitty or half dead plants from other companies.

Not so with Oakes! The divisions were no smaller than 8" in diameter and I recieved 2 bonus plants which were just as large and healthy and the ones I purchased. I placed a relatively small order just to see how the plants were, but when I'm done with this review I'll be going back to the website to order the rest of the daylilies I was drooling over!

As a picky gardener, let me say I was 100 percent satisfied with my order. Oakes, you have a new lifetime customer!

All of the daylilies, along with the bonus daylily, were carefully packaged, clearly labeled and the size of the bareroots of each plant was most impressive! Since planting all of these daylilies, they have already grown several inches. We can't wait until next season to seem them in bloom. Oh my gosh! I am so excited about the daylilies I purchased from Oakes! I had my eye on a particular variety for a group planting, and when I saw the incredible price Oakes had for that tall, white daylily, I ordered 12. They arrived promptly, carefully packed in a large box, with excelsior (No peanuts - yay!) top and bottom . An enclosed count tag indicated that two bonus plants had been included, but, when you consider the size of the groups... any of them easily could have been divided into two, three or four plants! However, I figure if the experts consider these "a" plant, I'll plant them that way. Anyway, ALL clumps are now sending up fresh new shoots. I consider this company to be a real find, and will definitely order from them often. Thanks to Garden Watchdog for pointing them out.

I planted them in 90 degree heat and all but maybe two plants have sprung up very quickly. In fact two of them have put up scapes and are blooming this late.

I went ahead and ordered another 25 and received them during even hotter weather and I'm happy to report after a couple weeks all have new growth and a several are growing as if it were spring.

The value is there when you look at the size and health of the plants.

I ordered two special daylilies for a purple bed I have in my yard. Not only did they arrive promptly, they were huge, 3-fan, with roots almost 6 inches in diameter. Very clean and healthy. Also, I received a bonus plant, and, someone was really thinking, they sent another purple one to me. I soaked them and planted them the next day. Two days later, I have new greenery showing up. These daylilies act like they were never moved, just given a little haircut! I had not been planning on a full daylily bed, but now, hmmm... :) Very impressed.

When I can purchase daylilies from a mail order company, have them delivered and plant them in 90+ degree temperatures and they jump out of the ground in a few days, I have found my source for daylilies with Oakes Daylilies. It speaks volumes for how Oakes grow and ship healthy plants. I too enjoy the large clumps and the Bonus plants. My problem is making beds and borders to plant all that I want to buy, as the prices are fantastic. I have paid comparable prices for plants of much lesser quality. I am anxious to see mine bloom, but have only been planted about 11/2 weeks, so I'll have to wait awhile. I think all daylily lovers would appreciate the quality and service Oakes Daylilies gives their customers.

I ordered from Oakes for the first time earlier this spring. I chose Oakes because of the great feedback here on Garden Watchdog, and I was absolutely delighted with my order. I ordered 10 different varieties of daylilies. The clumps were HUGE. In most cases, I had two good sized clumps of each daylily that I had ordered. (each clump being 2-4 fans, so that means Oakes sent me some HUGE daylilies!) They also threw in an extra: and it was not one of the $5 plants either (I would've been delighted with one of those, but this left me floored!). All I can say is WOW. I have given my extra Oakes catalogs to my friends and family who are also avid gardeners. I will definitely shop with Oakes again!
-- oh, and to my amazement, most of the daylilies that were just planted a couple months ago are currently in bloom or bud! I didn't expect anything until next year, but these daylilies are already performing!

I received a gift certificate from my daughter for Mother's Day so I called and ordered several of the Rosie Meyer's because they rebloom and are evergreen. They arrived Friday and are HUGE!!! The folks at Oakes included an extra one for me. My daughter orders from them all the time and her garden is beautiful. Daylilies are perfect if you want a carefree garden.

Ordered many times in past few years. Excellent plants, large and healthy, every year (exception is hem. Flava -got 5 plants- none have bloomed for two years...perhaps this year!) .
My motivation for this rating is the EXCELLENT and friendly customer service. This year I changed my order twice (getting 5 Frans Hal: fabulous!) and both times got a courteous very friendly and helpful response.
Highly recommend.

I am very disappointed as this now involves my sister who was looking forward to getting her daylilies. I had thought about trying a small amount to put with my roses (in a fenced area)by buying them from Oakes, but after letting both of us down, forget it. They are not the only daylily company around. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

For the past several years I have purchased a bulk mixture of daylillies from Oakes. I wanted to replicate a daffodill and daylilly display I had seen in another catalog. Lets just say that these plants have far surpassed my expectations. The bare root plants are HUGE and bloom the same year they are planted. The next year they just get better, so I ordered more. This may be a symptom of compulsive behavior, but I'm okay with that. These guys are great and every other mail order company has a lot to measure up to.

OK, I'm usually not this bad about not getting stuff in the ground, but I have to tell this story. I ordered a bunch of daylilies from Oakes, and they sent me an INCREDIBLE bunch of HUGE roots. I put them in a large tub in the shade and filled it with water, because I knew I wouldn't get them in the ground that day. Unfortunately, the bed I was working on needed a little more tending than I thought, and it was almost a MONTH before they got into their new home. I want you to know, they grew and budded IN THAT TUB OF WATER. And today, more than 2 years later, they are absolutely beautiful clumps of daylilies at the end of my driveway. I've ordered several orders since, and have never been disappointed. A++ in my book!
