I have ordered peonies in the past from Klehmís and have been very satisfied by the quality of the plant stock I have received. In particular the herbaceous peony divisions Iíve received have been very generous. However, I am far less satisfied by my purchase of a tree peony that I ordered last spring for fall delivery. The cost of this tree peony was $125; however the plant I received in the mail had the two tiniest branches a couple inches each. Upon contacting the company, they stated that there were few leaves due to the cold wet spring and that this is the average size for a shipped tree peony. I had ordered tree peonies from them in the past which were much larger. Their response is that they would stand behind the plant if it failed to come up next spring. But my issue is the very small size; their growing constraints should not be my problem. They should have waited until this plant reached an acceptable size.

Shipping is OUTRAGEOUS. I did not realize that there is no replacement unless you call immediately upon receipt of the defective plants. I will never order from them again. There are many other wonderful plant vendors who will stand behind the plants they ship.

I visited Klehm's on a Master Gardener tour and purchased approximately $150 worth of plants. Everything started failing immediately and ultimately everything died. When I called they said it must have been something I did. Since I'm a Master Gardener (and know a little about gardening) I don't think I could have killed ALL the plants. They have a no replacement policy which I didn't know when I made the purchase (my fault). I use their catalog as a reference (it's gorgeous) but I will never order again.

I ordered 2 expensive hydranges at the end of May '05, they did not ship (they said, due to hot weather) until the end of October. The plants did not have time to root and died during the winter. They have a no replacement policy.

I have read where numerous people were happy and pleased with Klehm's, but I am sorry I have to disagree. I ordered numerous perennial plants from them last spring. They claim their plants are half gallon sized plants. I beg to differ with them big time. They are very deceiful in my humble opinion. When my numerous plants arrived and I removed them from their half gallon pots it was more than obvious that these plants had very recently been transplanted into the half-gallon containers, as the rootball system fell away. It was obvious that these were in much, much smaller containers prior to shipping that a consumer pays a very hefty price for. Shipping was $21.00 for up to three plants, and an additional $2.55 for each additional plant.
