After a lovely walk with my wife this morning I came home to find my Annie's Annuals plant order sitting on my stoop. When I opened the box I could hardly believe my eyes. I saw a garden of Eden in a box! Each plant was carefully wrapped and loaded in the shipping box and each one was in pristine condition as if it had just been brought out of the greenhouse or garden. The plants are lush and healthy and I know because of the great start they got at Annie's that they will thrive in my garden. I highly recommend Annie's Annuals to any avid gardener from beginner or old pro!
Thanks for the great plants!

I've been thinking about trying them out for a couple years. I got an email last week saying they had a 20% off sale, so I figured it was time. I got exactly what I wanted, exactly when I wanted it and for a decent price. The plants were excellently packed, larger than I expected, look super healthy and have particularly great looking roots. The website is easy to use. It was an absolutely stress free and satisfying mail order experience. I will not hesitate to order from Annie's Annuals again.

I couldn't have been more satisfied (unless the plants had been free.) I had been trying to find a flower for years (hibiscus trionum) and had it on Annie's wishlist. They notified me it was available and I finally had a reason to dig into their website. What a tempting garden of delights, not to be too trite. The selection was exactly the kind of thing that appealed to me; a little or a lot unusual, well described and moderately priced. Since the shipping costs made buying 8 plants the best deal for me, I picked 2 hibiscus and 6 other untried perennials. When the package arrived, I was amazed with the care that went into the packaging and the quality and great condition of the plants that arrived. Best of all for me was the size of the plants. About 6 inch pots of healthy thriving plant material is a perfect size for me to plant in my mature garden. I don't really want to dig big holes any more. Don't overlook this gem of a plant resource.

I received my plants from Annies quickly, and they were well packed and arrived in good-to-excellent condition--moist soil, robust foliage and intact within their pots. After planting in my garden these look like very happy plants. The selection of plants is also good, and the website is very easy to navigate. After ordering, I received timely notice on expected shipping date too. I will certainly order from Annie's again.

I ordered almost two dozen plants from Annie's after seeing the positive reviews on this site.

When the shipment arrived, I was surprised by the robust size of each plant, as well as the extreme care given to packing them all up. (Unfortunately, I am used to receiving my ordered items from other nurseries in smashed cartons containing dried out plants, most of which have simply been rolled up in sheets of newspaper.) This is not the way your business is handled at Annie's Annuals.

I was pleased with the attention shown each plant. The packing design was so thoroughly thought out that I feel confident no level of shipping abuse could destroy any of the specimens.

We are extremely favorably impressed by the quality of each individual plant. I have had no problems with any of them. In the future, we will be ordering from Annie's regularly.

I purchased in May 2009 9 plants from Annie's Annuals. They arrived quickly and were well packaged. I didn't like the peanuts but the plants were securely wrapped and the soil was still wet. The way they are wrapped, none of the soil spilled and the plants are held in place. The shipping cost is high though (although they do an excellent job packing them) so that unless you're ordering a large amount of plants I don't think that it's cost effective.

The plants were larger than I expected. They have a huge number of different varieties available, both perennials and annuals and it seems that the availability changes week to week. They also have a wish list, so I'm guessing that if enough people put in requests for a particular plant that they may grow it. I did notice that 1 of the plants I purchased which was available the week I placed my order, had been moved to the wish list the following week. I assume means that they had sold out of their available stock of that plant, so I'm guessing that most of the items on the wish list are available but not necessarily during a particular week.

All of the plants I purchased weren't available locally and were hard to find plant varieties. The prices of the plants were good, especially for the size. It's just the shipping that is high.

I would recommend them as a company, particularly if you can go to their local store rather than ordering online, which would eliminate the shipping cost.

I have found Annie's online service to be great. The plants arrive in excellent condition. I have very difficult soil and climate conditions, so I attribute plant failures to my situation. I have the same problems with locally purchased plant material. It would help me out if plant descriptions included soil ph requirements for the plants, but I know from experience that the information is hard to come by. I think you will be pleased with plants that you order from Annie's.

I just discovered Annies and placed my first order. My plants arrived in 5 days !!! Amazingly fast shipping. I got big, healthy plants and could not be happier with them. Packing is superb. The plants were high quality, big and healthy. The shipping charges were very reasonable (be sure to buy 8 plants to make the most of the shipping charges).I am a certified plant NUT and was so happy to see so many rare and NEW (to me) varieties listed. I have spent hours going over the online catalog and buiding a "wish list". The site tells you if plants are avaialbe NOW.If not you can add your plants to "the wish list" to be notified when they become available. They also tell you if the plant is NOT in production at the time so you don't have to waste time lusting after something they won't have.
I am very impressed with the friendly customer service, the quality of the plants and the lightning fast shipping.
I'm sure I will need to find a twelve-step program to help me survive Annies plants. Well done in every respect.

Annie's web site isn't the easiest to navigate, but it does have a decent front-end and can be navigated without much pain. Though they don't list plants by USDA area, they do include that information in the plant descriptions.

Using their descriptions I've managed to find and plant plants I would not have expected to do well here, and many of those plants are doing very well.

Annie's has a great way of shipping LIVE PLANTS. These are not bare-roots, but potted with soil. Following their instructions, the plants thrive when planted. Their shipping method is unique as far as I've seen and I will leave it at that, to not spill their beans.

I did have one plant delivered "upset", Annies replaced it with very little prompting from me - and they also offered me some professional advice. I just emailed "in the last shipment, the xxx plant was dumped and damaged" and it was replaced in less than a week!!

Annies even gives you the chance to suggest when you'd like the plants to be shipped.

I'm very impressed with Annies, and have recommended Annies to friends of mine who are avid horticulturalists.

In researching to find a particular plant, my husband and I stumbled across Annie's Annuals on Dave's website. In viewing her fabulous photos of her plants and tour photos of her gardens, we decided to place an order. The good reviews made our decision pretty easy. What a wonderful first time experience with Annie's. Our 6 plant shipment arrived in 4 days. The plants were some of the largest and healthiest we have ever received from mail order and we purchase very frequently as we convert our large property into our own garden tour. Don't let the 4inch pot size hinder your purchase. Our healthy lush plants were very large and tumbling over the sides. Thanks Annie, we will be returning very soon for add'l plants to get them in the ground now for a jump start on spring growth. This was an excellent experience and we wanted to share.

I have shopped Annie's Annuals for a very long time and find myself returning over and over again for unusual and rare plants to add to my garden. I have always received fresh, well rooted, healthy plants. The plants come packed in strong, well designed boxes that are really excellent at protecting the plants from damage. I have even been surprised by a free plant in my box to fill a hole!

Her office staff is the best! They are knowledgeable, efficient and friendly.

I love the "Wish List" feature she has. I use it all the time to save plants I want for later purchases or that are just not available at this time so I will be notified when they are. A wonderful feature. Each week I hear from Annie's letting me know which plants are now available.

Her web site is very user-friendly and informal. You can look up plants several different ways, buy them then or add them to your "Wish List". The naration about the plants is very informative about soil conditions, sun, shade, water requirements, how the plant performs, what looks good with it, etc. Checking out is easy too.

Annie's Annuals is my favorite web site and I highly recommend it.

This is based entirely on a visit to Annie's in Richmond, CA. I have not ordered from them by mail.

I had seen a tiny selection of Annie's plants in the local nursery, and also gathered from internet sources that they had a variety of annuals as well as perennials. Recently returned to the area, I had been meaning to take a trip at some point but hadn't. Then I developed an interest in finding a certain plant--Solanum quitoense or Naranjilla, a plant from the Andes known for its tasty fruit. Only a couple places in the country seem to sell it. So I made a trip.

I would emphasize to begin with that I am less interested in annuals than perennials, and more interested in plants that are unusual rather than just beautiful. So you might think that Annie's is not the place for me. Not so.

Well, I was overwhelmed at first--the place is HUGE. A salesperson quickly helped me locate my plant, listed online at $8.95. I soon noticed another interesting plant and asked the salesperson the price--he directed me to the sign that showed the code for plant tag color and price. This other plant AND the Solanum quitoense were $4.25 each. Moreover, they were on sale, 20% off, so $3.40 instead of the $8.95 I had expected to pay. Needless to say, I found more plants to spend my money on. I ended up spending 2 1/2 hours there and probably even missed a few sections. My total take, 7 plants for (only) $26:

Actinidia arguta ĎIssaií, Coccinea quinqueloba, Echium hybrid "Mr. Happy", Eryngium tripartitum, Orostachys iwarenge, Solanum pyracanthum and Solanum quitoense.

All of these are perennials in 4 inch pots, in need of planting or repotting. I was very pleased.

While Annie's is a general nursery, you can't go there expecting to find everything--for example orchids. However, there are some surprises--for example either Annie or one of her staff is a big, big fan of species Impatiens. I did ask one employee how many plants were on sale at the moment--he did a quick calculation and came up with an estimate of close to a thousand.

I can't compare them to specialty nurseries, but as general nurseries go, they are THE best I've been to. I almost felt like I was in a great botanical garden with everything on sale--for cheap.

Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the SF Bay Area. Plan to spend a lot of time.

Note to the people from Annie's: I noticed your Echium 'Mr. Happy' was for sale at our local nursery, but without the photo and description. I suspect some suburbanites will be in for a surprise...

The plant selection at Annie's is incredible, and the website, with its wishlist function and slide shows to offer temptation, etc., is superb. And my three boxes of plants arrived here in Chicago two days after ordering. I do have to say, though, that I'm not at all a fan of their packaging system. It's very secure for shipping, and the plants arrived in good shape. But I found it a real chore to get them out of the box without damaging them, and then to get the plastic off of them without losing the potting soil. Other companies, in my experience, do it much much better. My rating is still positive, though, because of everything else they do right.

I have been repeatedly impressed and pleased with the quality of the plants I have ordered from Annie's. As many have commented, the plants arrive beautifully and securely packaged, looking as vital as ones I purchased in gallon containers at my local nurseries. The service has been extraordinarily efficient and their wishlist has made it easy to obtain plants that weren't available at the time of my initial order. Having gardened for over 20 years on both coasts and having utilized mail order nurseries, their plants far exceed the quality of any other on either coast, save for ForestFarm (one of the top 30 list). They are clear about the native habit of the plants and the zone/conditions that the plants do best in. As for cost of shipping, yes it is high, but if divided out over the number of plants, I have found that each plant doesn't end up being much more than plants I buy locally. For the quality and diversity, it's worth it! They will be the first site I visit each season! Thanks loads Annie and staff.

I've been ordering from Annie's for over a year now. I moved and started a new garden - left my old, established one behind : = { ! I've ordered from many other mail order catalogs and was ALWAYS disappointed. Small, unhealthy plants arrived over and over again and very few survived once in the ground. I've been gardening for years and know what will work where, so it was not from lack of experience or knowledge that I had failures! Each plant I receive from Annie's is extremely healthy and with only one exception, are thriving. I called Annie's about the one that did die in the first couple of weeks last fall and Judy told me they would replace it when they got thier crop back in this Spring. Without me even callling them, they were right on top of it and I received the replacement with the first new crop of the season. When I have a question I email Claire and she is always so helpful and quick to respond. She has the patience of a saint! I've had nothing but excellent service from Annie's. As far as the shipping costs go, I live in Southern California and they ship them out to me overnight. I don't feel the shipping is overly expensive considering the quality of the plants, condition upon arrival and speed of delivery. $13.95 is a great price if you put in a full order, or even half an order. I can order a bra from Victoria's Secret that weights about an ounce and the shipping is the same - and it takes a week or more to recieve it. Also, on the description of the plants the web site is specific as to what zones the plants will grow in. If you live on the East Coast, some will not over winter. Annie's grows plants in Southern California and sells what grows here and if you are in the zone she recommends, you'll be fine. Bottom line, I'm soooooo thrilled with the selection, customer service and quality of the plants that I can't say enough good things about them. I only wish I lived closer to Annie's Annuals - however, we may not have money for food and utilities if I did! Annie's Annuals is THE BEST - bar none, in my opinion!

I just placed my third orders. I am hooked with Annieís and could not help it because they have so many rare and beautiful plants.

I wanted to have Passiflora Membranacea for over six months. I didnít expect that my wish come true but put it on my wish list at Annieís. They sent me email that the plant was available and I purchased. I think their order system is GREAT. I can choose shipping date. A couple other catalog order places I used, I will never know when they ship my order. Due to my house upgrading construction, I asked them to change (delay) shipping date and they did so. The plants arrived so healthy looking with their love how much they care plants. Thatís the way I feel.

Extra care and soil with each plant cost more shipping but it is better to receive healthy plants. I live in San Jose so I could drive to Richmond but I am ordering from their website. Gas is expensive and they use special courier service, so I think their s/h is reasonable.

As my construction still delaying, I tentatively plant them in a separate container. However, they started wilting and I got so worry. Then I sent email asking their advice. They replied immediately and asked me to send a picture so they could see the condition. I could not believe how nice they are.

First off, I just love Annie's Annuals Website. It is very charming and easy on the eyes. It is just fun to browse through. I ordered three plants from Annie as recently as the first of last week and have already received the plants. They were in excellent condition, wrapped up very well. The plants were easily identifiable as what I ordered (believe me sometimes I get plants that I don't know what the heck they are and they are not even labeled). These were labeled appropriately but I could identify the plants easily as they were a good size and one of them was blooming. I have gone to Annie's several times to browse. I do believe this is the first time I have ordered and am extremely happy with the experience. Also, I think the information given on each plant on the website is very helpful. Plants are wonderfully marked as annual or perennial. I found a lot of annuals I would love to have but just don't want to grow annuals so there was no way I could order the wrong type of plant as she has them so well identified. Great experience and would definitely shop here again.
