I love everything about Annie's: their catalogue, their plants - everything! I've picked up wonderful gardening tips too as I live in SoCal. I've ordered numerous times and ALWAYS the plants arrive in good shape, healthy and QUICKLY. I don't think I've ever had a plant from Annie's croak on me!

If I have a complaint it is the cost of shipping, but that has nothing to do w/Annie's, it's the cost of living in California!

Thanks to everyone at Annie's

I feel lucky that I'm living in Bay area, because Annie's locate just 15 miles away from me. Normally, I'll do the research on their website first and then drive over there to get plants. Annie's is huge, there are hundreds of plants in the farm. The plants are healthy, I got over 30 plants from there last year, and they are all growing fairly well. You can find some really rare plants in Annie's, I got one unique African bulb plant there. After I had replanted it for just one month, it bloomed gorgeously. Because it is rare, you can hardly find the information about this bulb on internet, not even in Dave's Garden website date base. In addition, the workers are nice and friendly.

The catalogs are beautiful and the few times i've been in the Bay Area to visit I was blown away by the nursery - it's mecca for flower lovers!! Annie's is fantastic all around!!

I LOVE Annies Annuals!!!! I have been there and ordered on line and both experiences where excellent!!! The staff is so very knowledgeable and kind. There is never a question they cannot answer or find the answer to. The first time I went up with friends, (we live 50 miles away) in the spring we were so impressed that we went back four more times. I couldn't drive back up and needed more (of course who doesn't need more flowers!) so I went on line and ordered. I was a little apprehensive but knowing how great Annies is I went for it. What a wonderful experience the plants arrived in PERFECT condition! They wrap the root ball in wet paper towel then put the plant in a plastic bag then place in it's pot. The shipping box is so secure that the plants cannot move, holes are punched in the sides so that the plants can breath. When I opened the box the plants were just as healthy and lush as they were when they left Annies! This past Christmas a friend was looking for a gift for me, she decided on a gift certificate from Annies!! What a joy!! So back on line I went and oh my did they ever deliver!! I asked for my order to be shipped on Monday and it was here on Tuesday morning!! And once again the plants were in perfect condition (of course!!) So I encourage every plant and flower lover to go to Annies Annuals you will love it!! you may even see Annie there and of course all of the dogs, kitty, birds and bunnies are always fun to see! If you cannot get there go on line there is something for every plant and flower lover you will not be disappointed!! Thank you Annie and your AWESOME staff!

Despite being fully aware that this co. was a top 30 in GWD, shipping costs kept me at bay. But the seduction was complete when I learned they had a salvia I had wanted for a long time. I got smart and ordered 8 plants, which maximized shipping. The plants arrived in 2 days as promised and they were in excellent condition. Their high rating is most certainly deserved. After doing a cost/benefit on the shipping, if you get the max. # of plants for the particular shipping rate, this mail order purchase will be almost the same as if you had found the plants locally. Shipping aside, the cost of the plants themselves is reasonable and competitive.

I have a bunch of plants on the "wish list" so I know I will purchase from Annie's Annuals again.

I asked to have my plants shipped on Monday and I was pleasantly surprised to find them at my door on Tuesday morning. Obvious care was taken in their packaging. The plants had been taken out of their pots, wrapped in a damp towel and plastic bag and placed back in their pots. The cardboard restraint kept them from jostling around in shipping. There were air holes poked into the box. The plants arrived in beautiful condition and were up to size. The root ball was in great condition, healthy and not root-bound. In the week's time that I have had the plants the Eccremocarpus scaber has already visibly grown. I am very happy with the plants, shipping and selection and will certainly order again.

I just received my first order from Annie's Annuals, and I was stunned by the quality of the plants and the packing. I have ordered plants from many different sources and my order from Annie's has been by far the best. I do live in California, so I have to allow for time and distance when ordering from other locations, but Annie's packing methods surely allow for plants to arrive in the most healthy condition, no matter how far they travel. I must also comment on the variety of plants available at Annie's--even this late in the season there were many plants available that intrigued me but I just couldn't buy at this time. And you can "search by bloom color" on their web site, a really handy little trick. I love this company!

She then e-mailed me that they were sending me 2 replacement plants that have the scent. Since these plants are larger than average, special boxes needed to be made. How is that for incredible, over-the-top, above-and-beyond customer service? They now have a loyal customer for life.

I couldn't have been more satisfied (unless the plants had been free.) I had been trying to find a flower for years (hibiscus trionum) and had it on Annie's wishlist. They notified me it was available and I finally had a reason to dig into their website. What a tempting garden of delights, not to be too trite. The selection was exactly the kind of thing that appealed to me; a little or a lot unusual, well described and moderately priced. Since the shipping costs made buying 8 plants the best deal for me, I picked 2 hibiscus and 6 other untried perennials. When the package arrived, I was amazed with the care that went into the packaging and the quality and great condition of the plants that arrived. Best of all for me was the size of the plants. About 6 inch pots of healthy thriving plant material is a perfect size for me to plant in my mature garden. I don't really want to dig big holes any more. Don't overlook this gem of a plant resource.

I ordered almost two dozen plants from Annie's after seeing the positive reviews on this site.

When the shipment arrived, I was surprised by the robust size of each plant, as well as the extreme care given to packing them all up. (Unfortunately, I am used to receiving my ordered items from other nurseries in smashed cartons containing dried out plants, most of which have simply been rolled up in sheets of newspaper.) This is not the way your business is handled at Annie's Annuals.

I was pleased with the attention shown each plant. The packing design was so thoroughly thought out that I feel confident no level of shipping abuse could destroy any of the specimens.

We are extremely favorably impressed by the quality of each individual plant. I have had no problems with any of them. In the future, we will be ordering from Annie's regularly.

I purchased in May 2009 9 plants from Annie's Annuals. They arrived quickly and were well packaged. I didn't like the peanuts but the plants were securely wrapped and the soil was still wet. The way they are wrapped, none of the soil spilled and the plants are held in place. The shipping cost is high though (although they do an excellent job packing them) so that unless you're ordering a large amount of plants I don't think that it's cost effective.

The plants were larger than I expected. They have a huge number of different varieties available, both perennials and annuals and it seems that the availability changes week to week. They also have a wish list, so I'm guessing that if enough people put in requests for a particular plant that they may grow it. I did notice that 1 of the plants I purchased which was available the week I placed my order, had been moved to the wish list the following week. I assume means that they had sold out of their available stock of that plant, so I'm guessing that most of the items on the wish list are available but not necessarily during a particular week.

All of the plants I purchased weren't available locally and were hard to find plant varieties. The prices of the plants were good, especially for the size. It's just the shipping that is high.

I would recommend them as a company, particularly if you can go to their local store rather than ordering online, which would eliminate the shipping cost.

I have found Annie's online service to be great. The plants arrive in excellent condition. I have very difficult soil and climate conditions, so I attribute plant failures to my situation. I have the same problems with locally purchased plant material. It would help me out if plant descriptions included soil ph requirements for the plants, but I know from experience that the information is hard to come by. I think you will be pleased with plants that you order from Annie's.

Annie's web site isn't the easiest to navigate, but it does have a decent front-end and can be navigated without much pain. Though they don't list plants by USDA area, they do include that information in the plant descriptions.

Using their descriptions I've managed to find and plant plants I would not have expected to do well here, and many of those plants are doing very well.

Annie's has a great way of shipping LIVE PLANTS. These are not bare-roots, but potted with soil. Following their instructions, the plants thrive when planted. Their shipping method is unique as far as I've seen and I will leave it at that, to not spill their beans.

I did have one plant delivered "upset", Annies replaced it with very little prompting from me - and they also offered me some professional advice. I just emailed "in the last shipment, the xxx plant was dumped and damaged" and it was replaced in less than a week!!

Annies even gives you the chance to suggest when you'd like the plants to be shipped.

I'm very impressed with Annies, and have recommended Annies to friends of mine who are avid horticulturalists.

The plants were some of the largest and healthiest we have ever received from mail order and we purchase very frequently as we convert our large property into our own garden tour. Don't let the 4inch pot size hinder your purchase. Our healthy lush plants were very large and tumbling over the sides. I have even been surprised by a free plant in my box to fill a hole!

Her office staff is the best! They are knowledgeable, efficient and friendly.

I love the "Wish List" feature she has. I use it all the time to save plants I want for later purchases or that are just not available at this time so I will be notified when they are. A wonderful feature. Each week I hear from Annie's letting me know which plants are now available.

Her web site is very user-friendly and informal. You can look up plants several different ways, buy them then or add them to your "Wish List". The naration about the plants is very informative about soil conditions, sun, shade, water requirements, how the plant performs, what looks good with it, etc. Checking out is easy too.

This is based entirely on a visit to Annie's in Richmond, CA. I have not ordered from them by mail.

I had seen a tiny selection of Annie's plants in the local nursery, and also gathered from internet sources that they had a variety of annuals as well as perennials. Recently returned to the area, I had been meaning to take a trip at some point but hadn't. Then I developed an interest in finding a certain plant--Solanum quitoense or Naranjilla, a plant from the Andes known for its tasty fruit. Only a couple places in the country seem to sell it. So I made a trip.

I would emphasize to begin with that I am less interested in annuals than perennials, and more interested in plants that are unusual rather than just beautiful. So you might think that Annie's is not the place for me. Not so.

Well, I was overwhelmed at first--the place is HUGE. A salesperson quickly helped me locate my plant, listed online at $8.95. I soon noticed another interesting plant and asked the salesperson the price--he directed me to the sign that showed the code for plant tag color and price. This other plant AND the Solanum quitoense were $4.25 each. Moreover, they were on sale, 20% off, so $3.40 instead of the $8.95 I had expected to pay. Needless to say, I found more plants to spend my money on. I ended up spending 2 1/2 hours there and probably even missed a few sections. My total take, 7 plants for (only) $26:

Actinidia arguta ‘Issai’, Coccinea quinqueloba, Echium hybrid "Mr. Happy", Eryngium tripartitum, Orostachys iwarenge, Solanum pyracanthum and Solanum quitoense.

All of these are perennials in 4 inch pots, in need of planting or repotting. I was very pleased.

While Annie's is a general nursery, you can't go there expecting to find everything--for example orchids. However, there are some surprises--for example either Annie or one of her staff is a big, big fan of species Impatiens. I did ask one employee how many plants were on sale at the moment--he did a quick calculation and came up with an estimate of close to a thousand.

I can't compare them to specialty nurseries, but as general nurseries go, they are THE best I've been to. I almost felt like I was in a great botanical garden with everything on sale--for cheap.

Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the SF Bay Area. Plan to spend a lot of time.

Note to the people from Annie's: I noticed your Echium 'Mr. Happy' was for sale at our local nursery, but without the photo and description. I suspect some suburbanites will be in for a surprise...
