I am a botanist & came across this site in search of milkweed seed. This "foundation" at first appears as if it might be an educational non-profit, but is clearly a business. The plants included in the seed mix, esp. Queen Anne's Lace & Bachelor's button, are from Eurasian and can displace the native plants Monarch's and many other native insects, need to support our native birds, etc. Also, the seed mix includes Asclepias curassavica, which is a subtropical annual species. It would not be native or easily propagated anywhere north of TX or FL. The contact page of this site has the same beginning url as the rest: //www.livemonarch.com/contact.htm, so I do not believe it is someone else posing as the seller.

I had a lousy expreience with this Orginazation. About 9/07 I sent $20 cash, (suggested donation $2) and asked that I be sent 50-75 Milkweed seeds, and to use the rest to cover free seed for kids. I enclosed the Self Addressed/Stamped envelope as requested.
When I had heard nothing from them by mid 11/07 I sent them an e-mail suggesting possible employee theft of cash out of the mail, and again requesting a response at the minimum.
As of today, Mid 12/07 I have heard nothing from them from either the 1st letter, or the e-mail. I question the veracity of this "Supposed" non profit agency, and suggest that something illegal, at the minimum has gone on at least once, and management didn't care.
I would recommend avoiding this Organization like the plague, and buy any Milkweed elsewhere, from a reputable enterprise.

My Name is Christopher Singer.
This one bad experience from an unknown source that we have not been able to contact and never heard from directly is over two years old. Is it real? Well we are!

We receive and send out over 3,000 pieces of mail each year.
Of that maybe 20-30 are lost either coming to us or after we send them back full of seeds and our materials.

If we ever got this persons letter we did send out a great thank you package. If we ever got an inquiry about a missing package we sent out an even bigger thank you package.

If there is anyone that has ever had a bad experience with our Free or donation based seed program please call us. Our toll free number is 877 722-8624. Ask for me!

Possible explanations:

It often happens that mail is returned by the post office because the self addressed envelope that was originally sent has a bad address or is undeliverable...We see 2-5 per week.

Yes mail is lost- National post office average is over 1%- 3%
That is allot of lost mail.

We are not affiliated with Amazing Butterflies, This company improperly copied our donations page and had people send donations to their address.

If you see any organization collection donations or giving away seeds from The Live Monarch Foundation it is a fraud and not part of us. Check the address carefully. Our good name has been damaged in the past by these actions and it is impossible to police the entire web for them. If you see any other website with our material collection monies please let us know.

Thank you,

Christopher
