Excellent little photo essay on good tree care; it breaks my heart to see a big tree "topped" like the one you show. It's slow certain death for most. I've watched magnificent 100-year old maples go from healthy vigorous trees to dead snags in 3 years after severe "topping." it should be against the law

Thanks! Yes, that is true and i wish topping were against the law! I think people get confused and think that all trees are fruit trees that are topped. I once pruned apple trees at a farm and it was so different, the opposite. Here in PA I say that the English and Pennsylvania Dutch think all trees are apple trees and the Italians think they are all olive trees...
